Bright Young Things : The Studios
This year 15 acts are being featured on a special CD, and local studios Touchwood and House of Mook are hosting the sessions and providing help and advice to all the musicians.
Phil Mayne from House of Mook said "The sessions at House of Mook are intended to be a thorough preparation for the artists’ recording at Touchwood, and involve not just rehearsal but pre-production, incorporating a rough recording and feedback on their chosen song. For example there have been opportunities to try out different ideas for overdubs and effects. We’ve also looked at shortening intros in a couple of instances to make the songs more immediate and also tried to second guess any technical problems that might arise in order to make the time spent at Touchwood as productive as possible. The bands seem to be finding the sessions useful and I’m enjoying being involved with a much broader cross-section of music than I’m used to working with on my label (Mook Records). Bright Young Things is a worthwhile project and I’m looking forward to hearing the finished versions of all the songs".
Bruce Wood from Touchwood Studios said "The whole project went very well and was very enjoyable. All the bands are highly professional, and between them have great musical diversity. The bands that came to our studios have found Bright Young Things immensely rewarding, especially with the tips we have provided them with on how best to maximise their recording, and even ideas on how to arrange themselves when they are performing live. The feedback we give them lets the bands see where they can take their music in the future. For Touchwood Studios, involvement in Bright Young Things is superb as we do a lot of work with Leeds bands so to be able to help all these at once is highly rewarding."
